UK/ロンドンを拠点に活動するDJ、プロデューサー、マルチ・インストゥルメンタリストのLawrence Hart(ローレンス・ハート)が、待望のデビューアルバム『Come In Out of the Rain』を4月4日にリリースする。テックハウスやディープ・ハウスを得意とするプロデューサーだ。
アルバムの発表と合わせて、リードシングル「Love U Bring」が公開された。爽快感のあるEDMのナンバー、オートチューンをかけたヴォーカルトラックで、今夏のダンスフロアを揺るがす。
”Love U Bring"は、ハートの使命に忠実で、神経質なエネルギーに満ちたアップビートなトラックで、スキットでブレイクなビートと、チョップされピッチシフトされたヴォーカルサンプルが、伸びやかなベースと落ち着いたメロディックなシンセ・コードによって重みを増している。テックの魔術師であるハートは、幼少期にクラシック音楽の訓練を受けた。
サイモン・リーダーの監督による「Love Is All Pain」のビデオは、1980年代後半のポスト・パンク・シンセ時代の美学にちなんで、全編モノクロの8ミリフィルムで撮影され、先月、ロンドン南東部の象徴的なブルータリズムの地、テムズミードにあるサウスミア湖周辺でロケを行ったバンドの姿が収められている。
The WAEVE (Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall) have announced the release of a new 3-track EP titled 'Eternal', set for release via Transgressive on 14th March 2025, with first single 'Love Is All Pain' out now.
Produced by James Ford (Fontaines D.C., Arctic Monkeys, The Last Dinner Dinner Dinner Produced by James Ford (Fontaines D.C., Arctic Monkeys, The Last Dinner Party, blur), the three new tracks on 'Eternal' mark the follow up to the band's acclaimed two albums, The WAEVE (2023) and City Lights (2024).The propulsive first single 'Love Is All Pain' features the ever-harmonic duet of Rose and Graham on vocals, plus throbbing electro synths and irresistible top lines which come as a warning sign to hopeless romantics everywhere this Valentine's Day.
Directed by Simon Leeder, the video for 'Love Is All Pain' was shot entirely on black & white 8mm film in a nod to the post-punk synth-era aesthetic of the late 1980s, and captures the band on location around Southmere Lake at Thamesmead, South East London's iconic Brutalist estate, last month.
The announcement comes ahead of the band's upcoming UK headline tour which kicks off next month on 16th March in Glasgow and will see the band visit Manchester (18th March), Sheffield (19th March) and Bristol (21st March), as well as a headline show at the iconic Camden venue KOKO on 20th March 2025. Last month, the band released a new live album titled ‘Live from the City Lights Sessions’, available digitally on Transgressive Records.
The record features Graham and Rose joined by a full live band as they perform all 10 tracks from their acclaimed second studio album ‘City Lights’ in London’s Crouch End Studios, a special opportunity for fans to experience the songs in a whole new dimension. The live album release follows the performance film series, City Lights Sessions, directed by Natàlia Pages, which artfully captured every song on the album.

リミキサー陣はインディ・シーンで絶大なる支持を得るドリームポップバンド”Yucca”から榎本勇作と品田文子、90’Sジャパニーズ・ギターポップを牽引したmarble gitar caseのバブ、 lol、AMEFURASSHIに作家として楽曲提供しているSSWのяieko等、バラエティに富んだ人選になっている。

偶然にも『The Unraveling Of PUPTHEBAND』というタイトルの前作を発表した数日後、私の人生は予期せず崩壊した。
『Hallways』の歌詞を書いたのは、そんなことが起こっている最中だった。 奇妙な1週間だった。 『Who Will Look After The Dogs? 』というタイトルは破壊的だと思うけど、”なんてこった、これは大げさなんだ！”という感じだ。 少なくとも、その前の行の文脈から見ればね。 それが僕らにとっては面白いんだ。
最も冒険的でマキシマムなフルアルバム、2022年の『The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND』のリリース後、バンドの生活は大きく変化した。ギタリストのスティーヴ・スラドコフスキーは結婚し、ベーシストのネスター・チュマックは父親としての生活に落ち着き、ドラマーのザック・マイクラはトロントの新しい場所に引っ越し、自宅スタジオを拡張することができた。他のメンバーたちが大きな決断を下し、行動を共にする中、バブコックは孤独を感じていた。彼は10年来の交際に終止符を打ち、バンドメンバーとも距離を置いたばかりだった。
「レコードを作っているときは仲が悪いから、引きこもりがちになるんだ」とバブコックは言う。「以前は別の人に安らぎを見出したものだが、今回は一人だった。退屈で寂しかったから、ただひたすら曲を書き始めたんだ」。以前のアルバムでは、12曲を完成させるのに2〜3年かかったが、『Who Will Look After The Dogs?』では一年で３０曲をスピーディーに書き上げた。

「今回のプロダクションはこれまでの10倍のスケールになった」とライトは語る。注目すべき楽曲 「 Shandy In The Graveyard(墓場のシャンディ)」 では、ラッパーのBilly Woods(ビリー・ウッズ)をフィーチャー、バンドが自身の青春時代とライブに集まる若い観客層に思いを馳せる。彼らの若々しいスピリットは楽曲のサウンドの随所に表れている。とりわけトリップホップとオーケストラ・フォークを自在に行き来するプロダクションが新鮮な音の対比を生み出す。

『When The Distance Is Blue』は、完全インストゥルメンタルの「組曲」と銘打たれている。 このアルバムでピアノとヴァイオリンを演奏しているスチュワートは、プレスリリースでこのアルバムを "私たちがその合間に過ごす瞬間へのラブレター "と表現している。 タイトルは、レベッカ・ソルニットの優れたエッセイ集『A Field Guide To Getting Lost』に由来する。
